Troy Anderson Quartet • Jazz
Troy Anderson got his first taste for music while growing up in a Bahamian family filled with musicians. At the age of 10, he began playing the trumpet and went on to perform in the Florida Sunshine Band and the Gospel Sounds. Anderson first fell in love with the music of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong while playing with the 2nd AD (Fwd) Jazz Band in Germany where he was stationed as a paratrooper. Anderson’s Armstrong is too natural to be called uncanny. Starting out with the look, he slips easily into the rest — the dinner jacket, the trumpet and hanky, the roly-poly voice, and above all, the contagious the joie de vivre that made Armstrong so beloved.

Joey Gilmore Blues Band • Blues
Florida legend Joey Gilmore is a distinguished figure in the world of blues and soul. As a teen he began his love affair with the guitar, learning from a local barbershop owner who was also a preacher. The minister’s electric guitar fascinated Gilmore and he would hang around the shop just to get his hands on the guitar. After learning through observation and practice, Gilmore’s talent would shine. He’s played at festivals and venues all over the world, sharing the stage with greats such as James Brown, Etta James, Johnny Taylor, and Bobby Bland, among others. In 2006, Gilmore won the IBC, the most distinguished and internationally coveted award in all of blues.

Glyn Dryhurst Quartet • Dixieland
Dixieland is the name given to the style of jazz performed by early New Orleans jazz musicians. The name is a reference to the “Old South,” specifically anything south of the Mason-Dixon line. Dixieland, which was developed in New Orleans, is one of the earliest styles of jazz music. The style combines brass band marches, French Quadrilles, biguine, ragtime, and blues with collective, polyphonic improvisation. Not often heard today, a handful of dedicated bands keep the music alive. Glyn Dryhurst and his band are South Florida’s leading group dedicated to this genre of music.
